Alejandra Phelts was born to a Mexican mother and German/Colombian father in Mexicali, Mexico, in 1978. She began her art studies in 1998 at the Institut Privé de Philosophie et Théologie Saint Jean in Saint Jodard France. She enriched her studies by taking some courses in Art Appreciation an Art History in Northern Italy. After her stay in Europe, she continued her education at the Institute of Fine Arts of Baja California. In 2008, she earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts at the Autonomous University of Baja California.
Since 2001, Phelts’ work has been shown in 10 solo exhibitions and 30 group exhibitions throughout Mexico and the United States. Her work has been selected in some biennials and art projects, such as: Baja California Fine arts Biennial in their editions XIV and XV, Codet National Painting Biennial 2004, the selection “Center’s International Contemporary Artist Series” to expose individually in the course of the 25th anniversary celebration of the “Center for US-Mexican Studies” at UCSD, University of California, San Diego; as well as the participation in the editorial project “Imagining Ourselves” of the International Museum of Women, San Francisco, CA. She has obtained scholarships and supports like the “FOECA 2004” which is granted by the Institute for Culture in Baja California and CONACULTA (National Counsel of Culture and Art) in the category of Young Creators; the artistic scholarship 2005 by the Autonomous University of Baja California UABC and recently the PECDA scholarship granted by the Institute for Culture in Baja California and FONCA (National Found of Culture and Arts) in the category of Baja Californian Art Research.
At present she has her studio in Tijuana, Baja California, where she develops multidisciplinary projects.
